ABSTRACT

ThisarticlewascarriedouttogatheracollectionofdataextractedfromseveralstudiesaboutthesnakeLachesismutamuta(surucucu),encompassinginthisinformationfromtheeffectsandpropertiesofitsvenom,casereport,treatmentandevendiagnosis.L.m.mutawasaddressedthroughoutthestudybyreferringmainlytotheirvenom,whichinisolatedfractions,asLHFI,LHFII,LmTX-I,amongothers,presentseveralactivities,amongwhichstandoutare:coagulant,hemorrhagic,proteolyticandneurotoxic.Besides,otherstudiesinvolvingitsdiagnosis,treatment,cytotoxicity,edema,inflammation,genotoxicityandmutagenicityhavealsobeencarriedout.Thebibliographicsurveyinitiallymade,followedbytheselectionofcollecteddata,wasproperlyorganizedinthetextusingthenarrativemethod,sothatthefindingscouldbechronologicallydistributedinatimeline.Therefore,itwaspossibletoconcludethatallthesestudieswereandareofparamountimportancetohelpunderstandthepathophysiologyofenvenomingbythissnake,inadditiontopointingouttheBothrops-Lachesisantivenom,openingawidetherapeuticwindowfornumerousapplications.
